Do you want the perfect horse with the best ground manners and gentlest temperament? Then Chief is who you want to come live with you as a pasture pal.

Chief came to our rescue during a seizure of four horses (see the story on the Tennessee Four for more info). He was thin, wormy and had lice. Today he is beautifully filled out and muscular. Chief has been ridden English and Western and has beautiful movement. However, he has what is called a cold back–we think it was from being ridden too thin without a saddle pad–if you don’t ride him daily he bucks and is nervous for the first part of the ride. The problem is that he goes lame in his front easily and so regular riding is not something he can handle. We have been unable to pinpoint the source of the lameness in his shoulder and front legs as it is not always in the same place.

Given his gentle personality and love of people we recommend that Chief be someone’s pet and not be ridden. Chief bathes, trailers, longes, is good with the farrier, and cross ties. You won’t find a greater buddy! Chief is up-to-date on all vaccinations and teeth. If you are interested in learning more about him email us.
