Internship Opportunities

The Horse Helpers of The High Country Internship Program is designed to immerse participants in the daily operations of a non-profit horse rescue by giving them an unique opportunity to work with neglected and abused horses.

Through education and interaction, students gain experience working with equine professionals and the public throughout the rescue and rehabilitation process. Interns can expect to gain significant equine experience, recognize equine cruelty and neglect, receive training in basic rehabilitation, and learn about horse psychology and its application in training.

Public Relations/Marketing Internship

Public relations/marketing interns will gain valuable first-hand professional experience. We are looking for currently enrolled students majoring in communications, public relations or journalism. Candidates must have excellent writing skills, strong communication and research skills and the ability to multi-task.

Intern duties include:

  • Draft materials for the media, such as news releases and media advisories
  • Create and update media lists
  • Monitor media content and compiling reports
  • Contribute to PR action plans for events and publicizing the events
  • Assist with organizational tours for the press and the public
  • Update social media accounts
  • Complete additional administrative tasks as needed

Accounting Internship

This internship is designed to give Accounting or Finance students practical, hands-on experience with non-profit accounting. We are looking for applicants who possess strong interpersonal skills, including communicating in person, by e-mail and by telephone, customer service and time management, along with attention to detail, plus the commitment to see projects through to 100% completion with 100% accuracy.

Intern duties include:

  • Complete bookkeeping and transactional entries, including setting up new systems
  • Assist with the monthly financial close process
  • Track and reconcile journal entries and tax files
  • Prepare check requests
  • Assist with other day-to-day operational accounting functions as needed
  • Help establish three year plans, budgets, and goals
  • Help create a long-term capital campaign plan and manage fund

Non-profit Management Internship

This internship is open to college undergraduates and recent graduates with a career interest in non-profit arts management, and individuals who are considering a career change into the non-profit arena. This position requires someone who is highly motivated, self-directed and good initiative; asks questions when needs direction, is pro-active; is a good writer and has good communication skills; has strong organizational skills, flexibility, creativity, and confidence, is able to communicate with a diverse community.

Intern duties include:

  • Cultivate donors
  • Create and maintain a database management system
  • Establish program development projects
  • Manage projects and community outreach
  • Seek out and write grants
  • Help with fundraising activities

Graphic Design Internship

Designed to give Graphic Arts students practical, hands-on experience; this internship is a great opportunity to build their portfolio while helping a great cause. Graphic design interns must have the ability to create intelligent, “think outside of the box” and innovative design solutions for print and web; possess a strong knowledge of Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. Interns must also be willing to be creative within very tight budgets and utilize the power of creativity/design to create positive change in the world.

Intern duties include:

  • Redesign Brochure
  • Develop a new Horse Helpers of the High Country Logo
  • Design Event Flyers
  • Assist our webmaster with website design

Product Design Internship

This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience and build their portfolio while benefiting animals and people alike. Interns must be able to take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for our organization; design flows and experiences that are incredibly simple and elegant; as well as give and solicit feedback from other designers in order to develop quality products.

Intern duties include:

  • Design and construct durable equipment/products
